What is IPL?

Individuals who are concerned about the look of hyperpigmentation or sun damage on their skin could be excellent candidates for intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy at Laser Beauty and MedSpa Center. An IPL photofacial is a skin rejuvenation treatment for hyperpigmentation concerns on the face and neck. Board-certified nurse practitioner Lori Turner uses intense pulses of light energy to stimulate the natural regeneration process and boost the production of collagen. Over time, you should see a healthier complexion, a more even tone, and fewer areas of hyperpigmentation. Although IPL is not an invasive treatment option, it can be very effective and can produce amazing outcomes for your skin. Our Highland, IN team employs the Alma Harmony XL PRO laser to perform IPL therapy and can offer you a skin examination to see if this service can help you achieve your skin goals.

IPL Photofacial faq

How much does IPL cost?
Every patient's case is unique so the cost of your IPL treatments will depend on your personal treatment plan. Laser Beauty and MedSpa Center may offer specials on treatments from time to time, and we take an array of payment options. At your initial visit, our team can help estimate your treatment cost and recommend how many sessions are needed to help you reach your goals.

How quick are the results from IPL?
Visible skin improvements can be noticed after your Harmony XL PRO IPL session, but the best results are most commonly noticeable about one month after a full series of treatments is completed. It’s normal for patients to see different responses following each session. You will likely experience an incremental improvement in blotchiness, redness, age spots, and sun spots over time.

What are the possible side effects of IPL?
Most patients notice some minor, temporary side effects, such as swelling, redness, bruising, blisters, or crusting. However, these effects should naturally subside 2 – 3 days following your treatment. The treated areas will be sun-sensitive, and you should keep in mind that excessive exposure to damaging UV rays can negatively affect your results. We also recommend using sunscreen to help prevent skin damage, like redness and sun spots.

Do I need to prep for IPL?
To prepare for IPL therapy, Highland, IN patients are usually asked to avoid sun exposure and self-tanners for 2 – 4 weeks prior to the procedure. You might need to discontinue the use of minocycline, tetracycline, doxycycline, or Retin-A/Renova several days prior to your procedure, and we may recommend that you avoid taking blood thinners and anti-inflammatory medications one week before the treatment to help prevent bruising. You also need to use sunscreen between treatments.

Why should I get multiple IPL sessions?
Multiple IPL treatments are suggested because they produce gradual, natural-looking enhancements in the quality of your complexion. Every treatment will help to reduce surface irregularities and spots. Multiple treatments also produce longer-lasting aesthetic outcomes.
